Windows 98SE Shutdown Problem.

Compaq Deskpro Shutdown proprely for 1 or 2 days but then it stops at the Shutdown screen with the message “Pls wait windows is shutting down.”
I reinstalled the OS.
Installed a new NIC (RTL8139) but the problem still persists.
Gets IP from a DHCP Server.
Could someone help pls.
