Windows Domain and VPN slow down computer performance.

by epagien . Updated 18 years ago

Hi,
In my work environment we have a Windows Domain with our DCs located within the building. The majority of the computers in our environment are either Windows XP or Unix. The VPN connection goes out to our customers that we are contracted too. The problem we are experiencing is that when we connect to a VPN the computer performance will drop dramatically. We assume this is related to the fact that the Domain must be trying to communicate over the VPN when it should not.

We are wondering how we would stop the Domain from communicating with the VPN and only stay within its own local network?

If we connect to the VPN via a computer not connected to the domain we do not experience the slowness. Slowness is defined by applications loading after about 30 seconds.
