Windows ME font installation

My neighbor has a new Gateway desktop that came with ME. The Fonts item in Control Panel opens like a normal folder, and lacks the “Install New Font” menu option. I’ve manually edited her registry to install a couple of fonts, but wonder if anyoneknows the cause, and whether there’s a fix for her font folder other than reinstalling the OS.
