Windows Media Player 9 in XP Home

by answerman . Updated 22 years, 10 months ago

I recently moved a customer from a Win98se box to a new WinXP Home box. All his music files are on CD. I copied them in to the default Windows “music” folder.

When you double-click a selection, it opens the Windows Media Player, but it’s not that song that waiting to play, nor is the song in the list. Upon searching through the “file tree” provided in the left pane, these songs are not there… ANYWHERE!!

Can anyone give me a clue as to why something this trivial, has to be made SO HARD? It seems to take songs that it recognizes, and puts them in folders within folders, all by itself. However I cannot get them to appear in the window. I also cannot clear the playlists that ARE in the window.

Should I just chuck Windows Media Player 9 and go with some aftermarket player that’s a little smarter?

I know this is trivial, but to the customer it’s important, and to me it’s just a pain.

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.
