windows network connection by computername

We set up a windows pc network with 3 pc’s (1 main and 2 clients).
All connections to the main were set up by computername.
Suddenly the connections did not work anymore, although :
– network is OK
– connection with IP address is working.

We changed all connections with the IPaddress, but why is computername of main no more accepted ??
