Windows networking problems

by jeremy_oshields . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

I seem to be having a wierd problem, I have a few windows vista machines and windows xp machines connected to the network over a fiber connection. The problem is that everything seems to be going good, I can ping pdc and pdc can ping back very quickly, also email and file server is relatively quick. But when I try to open documents off the file server with the vista machines they are very slow and the XP machines work fine but both download files from the internet very slowly. I thought it might be computer issue but I brought 1 vista computer over to my side of the building that is closer to the servers and doesn’t use fiber and opening and downloading improved by 100% meaning there were no performance issues. Any ideas on what is going on here? I can’t seem to figure out why this is happening.
