Windows NT 4.0 Client Access Licensing

by jhicks . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I just installed 30 CALs to our network today. I installed them as per seat. We have 25 clients logging onto 2 different win NT 4 stand alone severs. After installing the CALs I noticed that about 5 or 6 of my users were showing up as unlicensed. When I checked the Event Log I found the following error: No license was available for user (user name) using product SMBSrever 4.0. I have never seen this error before nor do I know what SMBServer 4.0 is. Can someone explain to me what SMBServer 4.0 is? A few more details that might be needed are: I have installed 30 per seat CALS, I have 25 users, most users are running the program Voager 2 from 1 server and Impact from another server at the same time (they start up their pcs and leave both voyager2 and enimpact open for most of the day). Since I installed the licenses as per seat, should’nt that let my clients have access to both servers at the same time or do I need more licenses? Microsoft sure makes this licensing pretty confusing. If any one could shed some light I would greatly appreciate it. Any additioanl MS licensing tidbits would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks
