Windows server 2003

Hi,
We have a network consisting of a Windows 2000 Server and 12 Windows XP Pro computers. We bought a new computer and Windows Server 2003 to set up a new server. What is the best way to do this? We want to keep the old server, though not as a domain controller, because there is an application running on it which we don’t want to re-install it on the new server.
