Windows Server 2003/Active Directory

When setting up Active Directory (dcpromo) during the wizard, you will be asked, the name of the domain you want to use. After typing in the domain, I believe it will then be verified.

Is it necessary to use a name like ‘domain.com or domain.net’? Is it ok to use something like ‘domain.local or domain.office’?
