Windows stop responding if computer is left idol

I have an Acer laptop that runs windows 8 and whenever I leave it idol windows start to freeze an a little box pops up in the corner and asks if I want to close the windows or wait if I click either one of the nothing happens and I end up having to restart the computer. Please help!
