Windows update blank page solution.

by jason . Updated 16 years, 7 months ago

I spent the last week trying to figure out why windows update only showed up as a blank page. To be specific:

Windows XP Pro (any service pack)
Any version of Internet Explorer

When accessing Windows Update, Internet Explorer’s status bar will say “Done” but it displays a blank page. It may also show parts of the page then display a script error of some sort. I also noticed that other pages that rely on scripts do not display them properly. Installing the new version of Internet Explorer does not fix the problem nor does manually updating to Service Pack 3.

This can be the result of any number of malicious software changing registry settings. I recommend that you run a full virus / mal-ware scan on your system. ( I will post procedures for this next). Then run the system file checker, then the windows update fix tool. (if you can’t find these post a reply and I will find links or post them on my companies website) That should fix your problem. If not let me know.
