windows vista cd/dvd drivers

just updated to windows vista business from windows xp pro every thing fine except for the dvd/cd burner is not being detected by windows..i have tried every thing including contacting dell on the issue.. dell is sugesting that i purchase a new one… Any sugestions would be appreciated.
