windows won’t recognize H.D.

Hi – I have an E-Machines 600. I recently tried to add a H.D. to the secondary channel. this machine uses cable select so that is how I set it up. The BIOS recognizes the drive butit does not show up in windows. I have tried setting the jumper to master – same result. any ideas would be appreciated. I have tried changing the cable same result.
