WINDOWS XP AND WINDOWS 7 DUAL BOOT?

If you are installing windows 7 in a dual boot system with windows XP do you have to give a different name to each computer boot? This computer XP is connecting to a domain with windows server 2003. When I installed it first I left the same computer name but found I could connect to the server with one account but not the other. The message I got was domain account not correct. Finally as a work around I reconnected each boot to the server but with a different computer name for each. Is this the correct option?
