I burned a normal Windows install CD to a normal CD-RW, but for some reason when I try to boot off the CD, it doesn’t work. The CD spins up and everything, and it shows the message “Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration…”, but after a second or two the screen just goes black and the cd stops spinning. Nothing else happens; it takes a forced poweroff to turn the computer off.
I’m a fairly experienced Linux and Windows user, but this just has me stumped when a CD doesn’t boot. Oh and btw, the CD boots up perfectly on my other computer.
Any suggestions? I need to get into the Recovery Console so I might possibly be able to fix my Windows installation.
The computer in question is a Dell Latitude E6400 that came with XP preinstalled.
