Last week modem in my laptop was dialing when by mistake I pulled it out.windows gave me that error that removing hardware without stoping can give unexpected results. I then inserted the modem back.Next day when I turned on laptop it hang while loading i.e winows xp horizontal loading bar just stopped. So I started it in safe mode. I did system restore, but windows wont start in normal mode. At this poit I didnot know what was causing it.I reinstalled XP but still same issue. One day while troubleshooting, I pulled out modem.After that xp started in normal mode.I then inserted modem back. Windows detected the modem and PCI serial port, but then it freeze.Nothing work. I tried ctrl Alt del, it does not work either.I had to pull modem out for windows to work. It is a xircom ethernet + 56k modem, part #RBEM56G.I tested ethernet port of modem on other laptop and it is working. Any ideas what may be causing this problem. Thanks Rashid
