Windows XP installation unable to finish completely

I reformatted my computer with xp. It finishes the finalizing installation stage then it restarts (which is normal). After restart, the computer hangs after showing up windows xp logo and didn’t proceed to the last stage of the installation wherein you enter the username.
Then after hanging up for a few seconds, the computer restarts again and successfully loads the windows but when i checked the username the administrator account is in default. When I went to the control panel to change the username it hangs. What could be the problem?
