Windows XP VPN login to Windows Server 2008, files access problem

When saving an excel files it will give an error message(access denied, read only file, network fails. etc). But the files has been saved. Trying to read the files gives the same error. But if I use Windows 2000 Pro, no problem but very slow. Can anyone help. Is it protocol problem.
