Greetings,
I am hoping someone can help me out with this issue.
The president of the company is one of only a handful of Macintosh users and cannot open attachments from some Outlook users because the attachment shows up as winmail.dat.
Other Macintosh users are not having this issue.
Our company does not have its own mail server, so mail is hosted off site. The provider is running a UNIX mail server.
All Macs are running 10.5.5 and Entourage 2004 with the latest updates (my appologies for not having the exact update number).
We have Outlook users with a mesh of Outlook XP and Outlook 2003.
The providor has told me “Our server does not alter the content or format of emails it receives in any way.”
Outlook users are set to send HTML e-mails because the company likes the formating of its standard e-mail signature. Word is set to be the editor.
I have set a group policy for Outlook Internet Format to always convert Rich Text to Plain Text.
I thought the group policy would resolve the issue, but I was told that it did not.
I then went to one of the users I am told whose e-mails show up as winmail.dat, found the president in the contacts, and set Outlook to always send to the president in Plain Text.
I was told this did not work as well.
I know there is a free program out from joshjacob.com where the president could drag the winmail.dat to an icon on the desktop and it will open the winmail.dat and she could then view and/or save the attachment.
This is not an option because she does not want to have extra steps to view attachments.
I have looked at upgrading from Entourage 2004 to Entourage 2008, but have not found anything definative as to if this move would resolve the issue.
At this point, I am out of ideas and any help would be greatly appreciated.
