Wireless connection will not connect after pro antivirus 2009 download

my wireless connection on compaq laptop running XP, wireless connection will not connect. I downloaded pro antivirus 2009 which turn out to be a virus. after the down load the only in the wireless connection was free public wifi icon. I remove it and now no nothing shows up in the wireless connection. on the wireless network icon, it shows not connected. I disabled it, enable it and repaired it, I am stil not able to connect to the wireless connection. any recommendations how to get the wireless connection to recognize the router.
