Wireless dropout D-Link

by d_eccles . Updated 18 years ago

I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless broadband router connected to a Virgin media broadband cable box. I have an old IBM Thinkpad laptop PC running 98SE with a Ralink PCMCIA wireless card and a self built desktop PC which has a D-Link DWL-G122 USB wireless adapter and is running XP home.
The laptop never drops out when connected to the web via the router but the desktop drops out every 9 minutes and I get a box asking me to repair or close the link. When I select repair, the link goes good for another 9 minutes etc etc.
On the toolbar at the bottom of the screen the D-Link icon is green (indicating a good connection) but the Windows wireless connection icon shows not connected.
I’ve put in the same workgroup for the 2 PC’s, and as far as I can see i’ve selected the right settings for available networks in terms of WEP etc. So why should the desktop keep dropping off? Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
