Wireless Internet questions (instability issues)

by tportier . Updated 15 years, 8 months ago

Set up:
Two houses on an estate sharing wireless internet. Modem->DLink Router daisy-chained to another router (Rosewill). The DLink’s wireless breadth isn’t strong enough, hence the second router set-up (don’t have money at the moment for a switch etc).

Most wireless network set-up wizards/guides say to plug in directly to the modem to get a stable connection, but I would rather not carry my desktop/monitor across to the other house if at all possible.

The wireless network isn’t secure as well, since the half-dozen+ of us have had problems with SSID/WEP codes etc. So is it possible to set up a stable wireless connection to this network without bringing my computer next door or establishing a WEP-key?

Thank you for your time, it is appreciated.

Todd
