wireless netork wont connect

i dont know much about wireless internet, but i know some, anyway my wireless usb adapter wont connect to unsecured internet connections

my adapter is a trendnet tew-424ub, im running xp, got the current driver, and my firewall is disabled

i read somewhere that it might be something to do with the MAC address, that i should enter it somewhere, but i dont know where
