wireless printing to my desk top

i recently bot a laptop and have connectd to my desktop with a lynksis router. internet is fine . i am having trouble with printing. desktop is windows xp home,laptop is windows xp media. i did the sharing . i have been told to get the ip address from the lap top and put on the desk top however they are`same by proxy. any help appreciated
