wireless router connection issue

I have a linksys router and I want to connect it to my desktop computer and my laptop which has a wireless card. I need to know where to plug in the cables… Does the modem go to the “WAN” or just one of the four slots??? I’ve tried it every way possible but I just want to know so I can stop wasting my time. Help please =)
