Word97 macro patch

I’m trying to patch yet another MS security issue. When I apply macro vulnerability patch for Word97 on a couple of workstations (W95&NT4) I’m recieving the following message:

wrd6ex32.cnv: not properly installed in this computer.
Restoring initial state.

I have tried to reinstall sp1 then reapply the patch–no luck same error. I then reapplied sp2a tried the patch again..same message. Got desperate, so I completly removed Office97 reinstalled, applied sp1 and sp2a same error!

Any ideas?? The best I can find on MS knowledgebase is this file is part of sp2a.
