Workstation not recognising network

by peter j . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

One computer of twelve on a peer to peer network (Microsoft Windows 98 ver.2)is recognising itself but not the other computers on the network.

The Ethernet hub to which the twelve workstations are connected by cable is recognising the workstation so the cable is obviously functioning okay. The cable was previously connected to another workstation which did recognise the other computers.

Apart from the user name, the identification of all workstations is the same, including the workgroupname.

The network card is an NE2000 compatible.

File sharing has been activated in all computers.

The only time we had this problem previously was when a network card was set up to use coaxial cable rather than the faster cable we now use.
As the network is required for both printing and internet access, I would appreciate any help that could be offered with this problem.
