I’m having a weird problem with my wireless connection and I’m not sure what to do next.
I recently enabled WPA on my SMC wireless router. At first my Acer 5670 laptop connected fine, but I had a hard time getting another desktop with an SMC wireless G usb card to get an ip address when connected. I thought it might be the router, so I updated the firmware, reset it to factory settings and enabled WPA again.
After I did all that, the desktop has been connecting fine every time, another laptop, a Dell, connects up every time, but my Acer’s connection became more unstable. At first it would connect up fine on restart but not get an ip after waking from standby; now no matter what I do it cannot get an ip from the router. Interestingly, it can connect to my neighbor’s unsecure network with no problems.
I have tried starting and stopping the DHCP service, doing a system restore, uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless card software and drivers, using WinsockFix, and setting the ip manually. Nothing seems to work. I’m confident that if I turned off the WPA on the router that the Acer would connect up just fine, but that is the one thing I haven’t tried as yet. Do you all know of anything else I might try?
