XML-based Application Models

Any opinions on XML-based standards for describing/modeling (business)
application software? I’ve seen a few articles about XMI from the Object
Management Group, but haven’t heard much about its utilization. I also sent
an inquiry to the International Function Point Users Group regarding any
plans for an XML-based specification for describing an application’s
function point count, but I haven’t heard anything from them.
