Xp Hangs in the middle of anything

I have XP pro, AMD 800 processor,256 mg ram,System is formatted as NTFS. Since this format, XP hangs at various stages and reboot is neccessary. Could happen at any time and there is no warning.Could this be related to lack of RAM, or might it be a processor problem.
