XP home login failure

I’ll just describe the nature of my problem and hope someone has some
idea…When i log in there is a blank alert box except for the image
of a red circle and white x, with 2 options of yes and no. Both of the
options have the same result: XP immediately logs off. I am able to
log in with windows safe mode, but not safe mode with networking. I
didn’t make any major changes to hardware or software, so i’m
wondering if a virus caused this?

Steps I have taken:
-system restore to 2 days prior
-copied userinit.exe over wsaupdater.exe

If you have any ideas, please inform me, for I am extremely frustrated
