xp home reinstall

my computer crash and i got a message (sys/32 driver file is missing or croupt) i tried to copy the file from the xp cd but it said that this is not a valid file, then i tried to repair windows i got a message that there is no operating system.
i place the drive in another computer as a slave and all the data is there i don’t want to loose my data including the windows file. how do i restore windows home with out loosing my data?.
