I have a problem with 2 machines running windows Xp. It looks like somebody with administrator rights tampered around with the local security
policy or registry. I have spend the last 2 days trying to fix the problem casued by the tampering.
Following are the problems listed.
1) Cannot write to floppy disks. Can read the floppy without any problem. Tried all the right settings in the local security policy enabling access to the floppy dive and CD ROM. Compared the settings with the otherPC that allows read and write
2) Doesn’t update the norton antivirus through liveupdate even though I can connect to the Internet which is through a proxy server. A exactly similar machine running XP connecting to the same proxy server can liveupdate without any problem.
3) The control panel can’t be seen in the other XP machine even if I’m logged in as administrator. Also the internet browser’s ‘connection tab’
is missing.
I realise that I have asked too many questions but it would bea great if you could help me out with this .
