Two part question for you good and kind experts…
I have two computers, both XP Pro sitting on a network. They are both in a workgroup, not a domain. When I attempt to access computer A over the network using Windows Explorer, I get this: http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff2/whftherb/Spiceworks%20Problem%20Cases/th_GuestNo_9-8-20102-42-14PM.jpg
When I attempt to access computer B over the network using Windows Explorer, I get this: http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff2/whftherb/Spiceworks%20Problem%20Cases/GuestYes_9-8-20102-41-50PM.jpg
I want the prompt seen at computer A as I believe it is more secure. What settings to I impose to achieve that “A prompt” on computer B?
Now, part 2. Looking at that same network, suppose I now have 4 XP Pro computers on the same network, A – B – C – & – D. When I click to explore on either C or D, they expose their shares without any password prompt at all!! Is that a sign that I’m accessing C & D from a computer that has the same Admin username/password as the one I’m at the keyboard? I think not, but I have to ask to assure myself. What’s the setting I need to fill in on C and D to make them more secure?
Thanks for any help and suggestions.
