My parents have an Actiontec dsl modem, a dlink router (not wireless), and 3 PCs. PC#1 is Windows 98. PC#2 (mine) is Windows XP Pro. PC#3 is Windows XP Media Center. All 3 PCs access the internet just fine. PCs 1 and 2 can see each other just fine, share files, etc. PC 3 has a printer connected to it which I’m trying to share. However, PC 3 can’t share files with the other 2 machines; 3 can’t see the other machines in network places and vice versa. All 3 PCs are using DHCP, have same network protocols, have file and printer sharing enabled, have same workgroup name. On PC 3, I’ve disabled Windows Firewall and Norton Internet Security 2002 (I think… I hate NS), but it doesn’t help. What am I doing wrong? I’ve done file and printer sharing on many networks, and I can’t figure it out. PC 3 is a brand new Dell. Is it XP Media Center, Norton Security, what? I don’t get it. I’m not on site right now, but I know that PC 3 can be pinged or can ping the others, but can’t ping both directions, can’t remember. When PC 1 and 2 can see each other and share files, I’m thinking PC 3 is the one causing my frustrations, but I’m not sure where. Please help.
