This is driving me crazy.
I have a XP workgroup setup with 4 computers (2 desktops + 2 laptops) each sharing drives and seeing each other no problem. I have a common user id and password on all machines.
I have a new laptop (XP pro) which I have added to the workgroup.
When logged on with the common user id and password it can be seen by all other machines and its shares accessed. The new laptop can see all other machines in workgroup and access the shares of them all bar one. When I try to access this particular desktop (again XP pro) a ‘Connect to..’ dialog box comes up asking for user id and password. No matter what I put in there it seems to ignore it.
I have tried vanillaUserId vanillaPasswd, thedesktop\vanillaUserId password.
What I don’t understand is why it prompts like this when none of others do? And how can I get past it. I have tried using the network wizard to make it part of the workgroup, and have also checked the local security stuff against settings on old laptop to make sure they are identical.
Help please!
