XPpro/Redhat/FreeBSD inst. nightmares??

by daimon . Updated 23 years ago

Ok, so I’m working on a few things for the office network, one of those being the toss up between Redhat & FreeBSD for a server, this server will be used for File Share and Internet access.

I’ve been playing with both of these on my machine at home in my spare time to see what more I can learn about the newest releases of both the above OS.
I’ve just decided to reinstall XP back onto my computer so I can enjoy my DVD’s and games, however I’ve noticed that the spare unformated 10gig partition left will NOT allow me to install XP.

Firstly, I have installed Redhat 9.0, I went to install XP pro and it’s error was that the maximum number of “partition’s” has been reached, (boot/root/swap of RH9.0), thus it won’t go any further.
Now short of shelling out hard earned money to purchase partition magic (which won’t run because I’m not using dos… What should I do? Presumably there is another way around this without big drama’s, I don’t really want to format and try the entire thing again… I just want to have RH9.0 and XPp together… it’s just experimentation in preparation for the office server.. I’ve previously had 5 partitions on a single HDD with no problems, I don’t see why 4 can’t be done, is it an MS problem with XP installation proceedure?
Suggestions, fixes, (preferably without spending more money, this is my private machine, not the work one) etc..

Thanks,
Simon
