Media Cable NOT Faux Pas.
The media cable uses the same port replicator as the docking station. The docking station/media cable port is not simply a ‘media-out’ port, but also a ‘power in’ port to allow the docking station to power the laptop. This port bypasses a weak solder point between the primary power adapter and the power supply itself. This is why the XC-1000 cable (DV318a) or a standard XB-?000 docking station solves the power issue on the Pavilion Laptop.
