Welcome to the new Community site for TechRepublic!

Hello Everyone and welcome to the new Community site for TechRepublic!

We are excited about our new design and hope you will be as well! Along with a new look, we also have some new upcoming features that we are excited for you to check out that we are sure you will really love - Such as the one that will be over in the Tech QA forum - it is one that will allow you to give that well deserved pat on the back when someone has given you an awesome answer to a question you have. You will be able to mark their Answer "Resolves Question" which in return will place an awesome badge next to their Answer saying "Best Answer". Course not everyone's comment can be a Best Answer, it must a a top level answer (no clarifications and afraid no children, just the parents will qualify), and only one Best Answer per Thread. This is just one of the new many other exciting features coming your way real soon, but the in the meantime - Take a look around the new place, see what you think! But remember....

We do know though that even after months and months of hard work and even with the best bug spray, that sometimes them darn creepy crawlers just seem to manage to find there way into the smallest cracks, because of this, we have created a spreadsheet for you to log any of these creepy crawling things you might find and we'll get right on them.

You can find the spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/a/cbsinteractive.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Am6thtySNMMxdE1NRDJ3cm9jYWJud0kzTmFvUGVPQWc#gid=0

We do ask that you please use this spreadsheet as it will help us keep everything confined to a central location making it much easier for us to squish, smoosh and stomp out them bugs has fast as you catch them. Though we are hoping you don't find any.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to ask - I am always here along with a wonderful fine group of moderators who can assist in answering any questions you may have.

Come on in, the water feels just fine....

    not faster
    - it took over 20 minutes for the "announcing-a-smarter-faster-techrepublic-for-2013" page to load
    - I've got one tab that has been spinning and doing nothing for 1/2 hour

99.9% of pages go to blank white screen with nothing on them and require performing an "F5" refresh flood
and that's not 100% successful in retrieving the page

and the cap is not readable 99.9%

    etc.

I don't see a 'File, Save' option or a Save toolbar icon! I've never worked with a Google spreadsheet before; am I looking for something that doesn't exist?

Navigation is pretty straight forward, obviously not optimized and cached properly yet as it is slow as molasses and returns a lot of errors but eventually wakes up and gets with the program.

First impressions, without doing ANYTHING but stumbling around and posting this comment, I like the layout better. Colour scheme and design, although very similar, is much better.

I don't know that I care for the three sites, Australia, UK, US it could break up our global community, unless Forums are amalgamated. Again though, I have done nothing yet and it's just the very first impression I get. Everyone here knows I like to challenge and that I hated the last layout, but I have to give TR props this time, based on what I've seen so far.

One issue I absolutely DESPISE though, because of feedback I've had in other sites I've managed, is the CAPTCHA!! I understand it's to TRY and reduce spammers, but they rarely work anymore.

Spammers get around the captcha on several other sites i manage too. the annoying ones here are not bots, they are usually people manually creating accounts and posting, so the concept is a failure from the get go.

For regular users, nothing but a pain in the arse.

PERHAPS, it is just when posting a new thread (lightbulb gently flickers on overhead) and is not required for follow up posts, guess I'll find out myself in a second. EDIT: Nope, ALL posts need CAPTCHA, what a useless pain in the butt! It won't stop spammers here as most seem to be humans!

I can see what they did, where they wanted to go and what they were trying to achieve with the revamp, I think it's mainly there with a few major website marketing faux pas but it's a tech site, what do you expect? I think someone properly trained in website desing and, more importantly sales/marketing, can fix it still but I'm sure that it's okay for TR anyway.

New TR is said to be FASTER! I'll give it a few days, slow as molasses right now.

I wonder if the BLOGS page was tongue in cheek or a Freudian slip.
BLOG ROLL?!?!? That'll be fun for the UK site, look up Bog Roll.

Its very slow and I'm not sure why posts are now limited to 2500 characters. After seeing some of the posts on this site, that is going to be an issue.

I can see everyone's real name in their profile. Please fix.

Page loads are measured in minutes and "My Stuff" is empty.
