He did so, with my consent, so I could view his photos of my grandchildren.
He provided minimal information, but did give DOB.
I was happy with the privacy settings.
Several times since then FB has "enhanced" privacy,
and every time they set all my privacy back to THEIR chosen defaults.
Every time they left me wide open for many weeks because they never notified me until I logged in.
FB are totally dishonest when they let me painstakingly establish desired privacy settings, and then "enhance" everything and put me back to default = wide open.
I do not think they have yet sold (published) my DOB, but it is only a matter of time. There are some Facebook victims that have suffered DOB publication.
It only needs a "friend" to be identified as my uncle and every-one will immediately know my mother's maiden name.
It only needs a friend to post a message referring to my pet dog and everyone will know my pet's name.
My Name;
My DOB;
My mother's maiden name;
My answer to a typical "security" question for resetting a password;
What more can an identity thief have on his wish list ?
FB have totally no respect for my privacy settings, why should I trust them not to repeat their acts of treason ?
I have read that in the early days of FB they stored erroneous password logins,
and Zuckerberg harvested from that passwords that enabled him to damage competitors, see
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/03/13/18640746.phpI am unable to give FB the benefit of doubt because of their recent and continuing dishonesty.
Suddenly, without notice, they have authorised 8 applications to download, run, and share, FB data with various web-sites.
I only looked for this invasion because of a warning I saw in item 5 of
http://gizmodo.com/5530178/top-ten-reasons-you-should-quit-facebookJust when I think it cannot get any worse, I realise I am up against an evil genius.
I DO NOT TRUST Zuckerberg to honour "ME ONLY".
In fact the day after I set everything to ME ONLY I observed that he had set me back to his defaults,
BUT "ME ONLY" is an essential safeguard.
Allowing "Friends" access to my data will not only allow genuine friends that I know of, but in the FB EULA, if not now then certainly as and when required, FB will define any of their associates/advertisers as being my "friend", and Zuckerberg can afford lawyers to argue that. It will be more difficult for them to argue that associates/advertiser conform to "ME ONLY" so it may easier to get the conviction he so richly deserves. I suspect that this is why he has hidden the "ME ONLY" option in a needlessly secondary menu.
F.B. have no respect for their users.
I reciprocate.
