ChatGPT advertising is now available in 89 markets, but not every advertiser can immediately run campaigns across all of them. OpenAI is widening access to its advertising platform while retaining restrictions on account eligibility and international targeting.

On October 21, 2026, OpenAI expanded ChatGPT Ads to 26 additional markets, bringing the worldwide total to 89. The company also reported that more than 100,000 advertisers had run campaigns since US testing began in February, giving businesses another channel for reaching potential customers during AI-assisted product research.

ChatGPT Ads adds 26 markets across five regions

The expansion includes 14 additional Latin American markets, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. OpenAI’s October 21 announcement also identifies Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Pakistan among the additions.

The rollout follows earlier launches in Mexico and Brazil, as well as ChatGPT Ads’ European expansion in August. Seven markets across Southeast Asia and Taiwan were added in September.

OpenAI has not individually listed all 26 additions in its announcement. Businesses can consult the current country availability list to check where self-service advertising is supported.

Advertisers can purchase placements through technology partners or OpenAI’s self-service Ads Manager. The legal entity placing and paying for self-service ads must be based in a supported market, and registering an account does not guarantee access.

Some new accounts initially face domestic-only targeting restrictions. OpenAI’s campaign targeting requirements state that international targeting becomes available after identity verification and qualifying advertising spend in the advertiser’s home market.

OpenAI builds its advertising business beyond the US

ChatGPT Ads may appear to eligible adults on Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts remain ad-free. OpenAI’s advertising FAQ says sponsored placements are labeled separately and cannot influence chatbot responses or give advertisers access to private conversations.

Advertisements can reach users as they compare products, explore services, or narrow purchasing options through conversation. OpenAI is also testing visual ads during ChatGPT image generation, a development covered in a recent roundup of AI developments.

In August 2026, OpenAI reported a $1 billion annualized advertising revenue run rate. The figure reflects revenue at its then-current pace, rather than revenue earned over a full year.

The company is developing additional campaign formats and measurement tools. In September, it began testing interactive Sponsored Agents with selected US advertisers, allowing users to ask business-sponsored agents about products and services. Wider availability has not been announced.

Advertisers can choose campaign objectives covering views, clicks, and conversions, although performance remains difficult to benchmark. OpenAI’s advertiser guidance acknowledges that ChatGPT Ads is still in beta, without established benchmarks across advertisers, industries, or campaign types.

Businesses entering newly supported markets can test limited campaigns while reviewing billing, targeting, and data-handling requirements. Broader access creates another advertising option, but measurable campaign performance will determine whether it earns a larger share of marketing budgets.
