access database for investor information

Recently I was asked to help come up with a solution to track investor’s accounts for a small business. The obvious solution is some sort of database. Initially, I was going to just create one in access, however, before doing that I was wondering if there is not already something available that would work rather than reinventing the wheel. The question then is, how do i find a buy solution, or a shareware, or even a template that I can customize? This needs to be able to track investors accounts, and calculate the return on investment by quarters, and shares of total business value. Thanks.
