Adaptec CDR driver conflicts

I have noticed 2 occasions where an Adaptec CDR/W driver has had a conflict with Windows.
Once with ME and once with 98 (not SE). After removing or renaming the drivers the problem seems to dissapear. However, I can’t find any information on the problem anywhere. Does anyone have ANY ideas as to what may fix this? ANY help would be appreciated. thanks.
