Antec DataSwap problems

I have an antec data swap unit that I am using a Samsung 40gb hard drive (Intel motherboard on secondary slave). Everytime I go to hot swap the drive in Windows 98 SE it causes a lockup. The drive is set as a removable device in Windows 98, and I’vealso tried setting the secondary slave as a removable ide in the bios and the lockups still occur. Is their something I am missing or that I could try?
