Antivirus on pc with the dreaded AOL

I know there were past problems with having antivirus software running in the background with AOL versions 5 or earlier. I have a couple of users that have version 6 and 7 and are using McAfee or Computer Assoc Inoculate IT. Both seem to be havingconstant freezes with the antivirus running in the background. I did a clean uninstall and removed anything in the reg related to AOL. Reinstalled, but still getting frozen when trying to navigate around in AOL.
