application error: access violation

I have a windows NT 4.0, service pack 6, running on a dual 400 processor. Recently, when I went to start up Macromedia Fireworks program, I recieved the following message: “could not launch fireworks, an internal error has occured”.
When I click help, Dr. Watson tells me that “an application error has occured and an application log is being generated:
Fireworks 4.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x0063977b”

Any idea how to fix this?
