AUTO DETECT FRAME TYPE

I have an HP Omnibook XE3 laptop running Windows 2000. I installed on it Novell Client 4.8. If I do not change the frame type from auto detect to 802.3, the laptop is unable to login to my novell network. My problem is that this laptop also needsto connect to a network that is 802.2. The laptop has an Accton EN2242 series minipci fast ethernet adapter. I did download and install the lastest driver for this nic from the HP web site. Other than manually changning the frame type, how can I resolve this issue?
