Backup probs!

by ian boothby . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I’ve just installed a CD-RW and have come across a few annoying problems.

1) When I backup anything to the CDRW disk, it is written as “Read-only” which means when I copy it back, or to another partition, I can’t use it fully until I’ve changed the attributes – is there any easy way around this?

2) When I copy the “Cookies” folder and then want to copy it back, W98se will not let me delete the HD “Cookies” folder (protocol-so OK) but the problem is that even if I CTRL-A/CTRL-C all the contents in the “Cookies” CDRW, I cannot paste them into the HD folder because the “index” is undeletable – so any tips on how to do this easily please?

3) Whilst doing this, I obviously couldn’t delete the “My Documents” folder either, so I re-named it with the suffix “.old”, hoping to drag the copied MyDocs onto the HD. It copied across OK, but was only recognised as an ordinary folder – not the default MyDocs, so I copied the contents to the My Documents.old folder, then tried to delete the “.old” by renaming it back (after deleting the dragged folder of course) but I cannot get rid of the “.old” suffix now.
