Battery Life/Battery Memory

I shared the topic “MAXIMIZING LAPTOP AND CELL PHONE BATTERY LIFE”–https://www.techrepublic.com/article_guest.jhtml?id=r00320000424lef01.htm&fromtm=e039

with a colleague. He asked the following: “Do Lead Acid Batteries have Memory effect? I havea not so new full size VHS camcorder (RCA). These 40 lb batteries don’t hold a charge any more, or can it be the re-charger? one of the batteries is almost new.”

Any ideas?
