Best Way to have two printers share an e

I am currently looking for some suggestions on the best way to have a printer and a plotter share an existing printer network drop. I am thinking of connecting both devices to an auto switch that would direct the traffic to the correct printer. I amalso slightly concerned about any problems that may occur due to this being on a full scale network.
